T5W: Book Tropes I HATE

Today is Wednesday and you know what that means! It’s time for another Top Five Wednesday! As always, Top Five Wednesday was created by GingerReadsLainey and you can find all the information you need on the GoodReads page.

This weeks topic is about the Top 5 Books Tropes You HATE!! I decided not to choose the ones that I knew everyone would pick, so there’s no InstaLove or Love Triangle on this list! Although I do hate those. As always, this is in no order and I probably hate them all as much as the other.

1.The “Manic Pixie Dream Girl”

Arghhh! I’m sick of this! The whimsical girl that isn’t really that nice of a person and just does whatever she wants. She never cares about who she hurts and wants people to do whatever she wants at the drop of a hat! Margo Roth Spiegelman I’m looking at you!

2. The “You’re Not Like Any Other Girl”

No! No! No! Shut up! I’m sick of hearing this. I hate when guys in books say this. So you’re telling me that you’ve never met ANYONE like this plain Jane before? Are you kidding me?

3. The “Miscommunication”

This is when the whole story is based on the two characters not understanding each other. Or that they just don’t talk to each other about a problem and there’s sneaking around because no one wants to speak up. It’s just frustrating.

4. The “Chosen One”

Now I love Harry Potter and I love The Hunger Games, don’t get me wrong. It just seems there’s a lot of fantasy and dystopian books that have that one main character that saves the world or whatever. Like their whole purpose in life is to lead a rebellion or defeat a dark wizard. This one person in the entire world is the only person to be able to save everyone. What? What? Huh?

5. The “My Family Doesn’t Care”

Where are the parents in YA?! Or let me rephrase that. Where are all of the GOOD parents in YA? Seriously though, it seems like there are no parents in YA/New Adult books, and if there are, they’re either divorced, abusive, drunks, addicts or just don’t seem to care and think that their child is a burden or something.

So that is my list of books tropes that I HATE! Do you agree with me? Do you disagree? Let me know!

Have a wonderful day and I will talk to you soon!!

Hello there! Thought I’d do a quick #FridayReads kind of thing. I may not get a lot of reading done as I am baking cupcakes tonight as it’s my friends 21st birthday tomorrow and I wanted to be the bestest friend I can be. Then tomorrow I have work, then I’m celebrating with my friends for their birthday. So I’m only really going to get some reading done on Sunday. So here is what I’m reading over the weekend!

The Coincidence of Callie and Kayden – Jessica Sorensen

I am currently loving this! I always forget how much I love New Adult books until I read one. This has me hooked and I’m obsessed!

The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzgerald

I’m only about 50 pages of the way through this so far but I’m enjoying it. Not loving it but its good.

That’s what I’m reading this weekend. Sorry this was so short but I have to go check on my cupcakes soon! What are you currently reading? Let me know!

Have a great weekend!

Bye!

So I thought I’d write a quick post about what I’m currently reading, kind of like a #FridayReads… but on a Thursday. Happy Thursday world!!

Now I normally try not to read multiple books at once but I just didn’t know what I wanted to read so I just kept starting books. So here’s what I’m reading at the moment:

Cress – Marissa Meyer

So, EVERYONE knows about this book. Everyone! This is the third instalment of the Lunar Chronicles series, the first book being Cinder, and the second being Scarlet. I flew threw the first two books and although I’m only 85ish pages I’m really enjoying this one too.

A Midsummer’s Nightmare – Kody Keplinger

A Midsummer’s Nightmare is about teenager Whitley who has a drunken one night stand at her graduation party. She then goes to stay with her dad over the summer and meets his new fiancée…and her new stepbrother who just so happens to be the stranger she slept with. Can you say awkward?!

I’ve read Kody Keplinger’s The DUFF and thoroughly enjoyed it so I’m hoping this one will be the same. And can I just mention how amazing this cover is? Wow.

I Am The Messenger – Markus Zusak

Ed Kennedy stops a bank robbery then starts getting mysterious playing cards through the post. That’s when Ed becomes the messenger.

Written by the same author as The Book Thief, I have rather high hopes for this book. I’m around the 250 page mark at the moment, and so far it’s falling short. It’s a little boring and I’m not really a fan of the writing style, but it’s mysterious and I want to know what will happen.

So yeah, these are the books I’m currently reading 🙂
