T5W: Book Tropes I HATE

Today is Wednesday and you know what that means! It’s time for another Top Five Wednesday! As always, Top Five Wednesday was created by GingerReadsLainey and you can find all the information you need on the GoodReads page.

This weeks topic is about the Top 5 Books Tropes You HATE!! I decided not to choose the ones that I knew everyone would pick, so there’s no InstaLove or Love Triangle on this list! Although I do hate those. As always, this is in no order and I probably hate them all as much as the other.

1.The “Manic Pixie Dream Girl”

Arghhh! I’m sick of this! The whimsical girl that isn’t really that nice of a person and just does whatever she wants. She never cares about who she hurts and wants people to do whatever she wants at the drop of a hat! Margo Roth Spiegelman I’m looking at you!

2. The “You’re Not Like Any Other Girl”

No! No! No! Shut up! I’m sick of hearing this. I hate when guys in books say this. So you’re telling me that you’ve never met ANYONE like this plain Jane before? Are you kidding me?

3. The “Miscommunication”

This is when the whole story is based on the two characters not understanding each other. Or that they just don’t talk to each other about a problem and there’s sneaking around because no one wants to speak up. It’s just frustrating.

4. The “Chosen One”

Now I love Harry Potter and I love The Hunger Games, don’t get me wrong. It just seems there’s a lot of fantasy and dystopian books that have that one main character that saves the world or whatever. Like their whole purpose in life is to lead a rebellion or defeat a dark wizard. This one person in the entire world is the only person to be able to save everyone. What? What? Huh?

5. The “My Family Doesn’t Care”

Where are the parents in YA?! Or let me rephrase that. Where are all of the GOOD parents in YA? Seriously though, it seems like there are no parents in YA/New Adult books, and if there are, they’re either divorced, abusive, drunks, addicts or just don’t seem to care and think that their child is a burden or something.

So that is my list of books tropes that I HATE! Do you agree with me? Do you disagree? Let me know!

Have a wonderful day and I will talk to you soon!!

T5W: Required Reading

Hello you sexy ladies and gents! How are you today? I’m most certainly not okay as I watched the Pretty Little Liars finale today… and I’m just not okay!!

Anyway! Today is Wednesday, so I thought I would do a quick Top Five Wednesday as today’s topic was really interesting. Top Five Wednesday was created by GingerReadsLainey and you can check out the Goodreads group for all the information you could possibly wish for! This weeks topic is your top five favourite books that you were required to read for school.

I had a hard time doing this one as at my schools we didn’t really read whole books for exams and assignments. I’m from England so I will try my best with what years/grades I would have been in when reading these books. But here goes nothing! As always these are not in order.

Kensukes_Kingdom_colour_jacket1.Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo

I read this in Year 3 in Primary School and I was 7, turning 8 (which I believe is the 2nd Grade?). This is about a young boy who washes up on a deserted island after he is thrown over board during a stormy night on his families boat. I loved this, and I think everyone in my class really enjoyed it. We also read Butterfly Lion by Michael Morpurgo, but I didn’t really enjoy that all that much.

2. The Harry Potter Series (Books 1-4) – J. K. Rowling

Yes! We read the first four books in the Harry Potter series in Year 3 (2nd Grade). It was a wonderful time!

3. Romeo and Juliet – William Shakespeare

Now we read a lot of Shakespeare during Secondary School but Romeo and Juliet stuck out the most. We read it in Year 10 (9th Grade) and again in Year 11 (10th Grade). I loved this and we also got to watch the Baz Luhrmann 1996 film with Leonardo DiCaprio in it which was a bonus!

4. A Christmas Carol – Charles Dickens

A Christmas Classic is it not?! Marley and Scrooge! Christmas Ghosts! What’s not to love? We read this in Year 11 (10th Grade) and we also got to watch A Muppet’s Christmas Carol which is just brilliant.

5. Of Mice And Men – John Steinbeck

A classic that I think was read by everyone in England (maybe? That’s probably a lie actually). Once again we read this in Year 11 (10th Grade), and I remember the whole class had to take turns reading pages out loud. We then watched the film after reading it, and then we may have read it again before out exams started later that year.

What did you have to read during school? Did you enjoy any of them? Let me know, maybe you read something I have? Until next time guys!

Bye!

The Liebster Award

img_4181

Hello! I was nominated to do The Liebster Award by the wonderful Audrey at ForwardsandBookwords which was awfully nice! Thank You! I’m not sure who created this (I’m very sorry) but I think this is a lovely idea! The concept of The Liebster Award is to acknowledge and give a shout out to smaller/newer blogs!

I am very, very new to this whole blogging malarkey and don’t know where anything is! (i.e I don’t know how to look at my followers, or see who I am following…oops). So I will try to find some blogs that haven’t done thing (but I’m blonde, therefore I’m not promising anything!) I encourage everyone to answer these questions though!

  • Would rather you rather never be able to read again or never be able to write again?

I’m not much of a writer, I write on occasion but it stresses me out a little! So I’d rather never be able to write again!

  • What is a bookish sport/event that you wish existed in real life?

Quidditch… duh. Well, technically here in England Quidditch is actually a sport we play in University (no lie). However, we don’t have flying brooms, instead we run around we a broom between out legs 😀

  • What is a series that you think is underrated?

The Hollow Series by Jessica Verday. Wow. I LOVED this series and I’ve never heard anyone talk about it! Go check it out!

  • What is a book that you liked “before it was cool”?

Ooooh! Hipster Moment. Hmmm I’m not really sure if I’m honest.

  • How do you like to organize your bookshelves?

I have one that has all of my TBR/unread books on it and that’s not really in any order. The other bookshelf is all of my read books, and they’re not really organised, but I like to keep series together, and books by the same author together.

  • Who, in your opinion, is the ultimate book villain?

Is there any other answer than Voldemort and Dolores Umbridge?

  • What book has a horrible cover but a great story?

So are so many ugly book covers! Honesty, I judge a book by its cover, and I don’t tend to buy ugly books…

  • What is a hyped book/series that you never see yourself reading?

Easy! The Mortal Instruments and The Internal Devices by Cassandra Clare. I just don’t care. Sorry not sorry.

  • What is a book that you want to seen turned into a movie?

So many! Maybe something by Jennifer E. Smith could be made into a RomCom! That would be good!

  • What book animal/creature would you like to have as a pet?

I don’t like animals… at all! But maybe I could have the Weeping Willow tree from Harry Potter to guard my house?

  • What’s the least amount of pages it took you to decide to not finish a book?  What book and why?

I’ve only DNF’d maybe 4 books. I try to get through them even if I hate it, so I normal try to get though a hundred!
